Sardine Run 2011 – Up, up and a-whale…

After some very big seas yesterday, the weather mellowed out a bit and we managed to get out to sea. We were in the mouth way before the sun was up and steaming down to Brazen Head (a landmark cliff on this coast).

Most of the morning was quiet and uneventful. It wasn’t until much later that we had the day’s best sighting: a pod of humpback whales was moving slowly up the coast and we followed them for quite some time. Our perseverance paid off when one of the younger animals started breaching. The perfect photo opportunity.
