Flickr group: pic of the day – blue-eyed darner Mar 27 2008

image

The blue-eyed darner dragonfly (Rhionaeschna multicolor) is commonly found in the western United States. It is an insectivore, hunting small insects while flying.

This photo was taken by our Earth-Touch Flickr group member Van Truan (AKA Truan), using a 70-300mm Tameron lens at 300mm, in Salida, Colorado, USA.

It is our Earth-Touch Flickr group “picture of the day”.

Truan said: “This species of darner is a fairly common large dragonfly, found from the plains into the mountain valleys. Salida is around 6000ft (1828m) in elevation.”
