Life’s just grape for Tiny Tim

Meet Tiny Tim. We’ve fallen in love with this adorable Egyptian tortoise, who (much like his namesake in A Christmas Carol) wins no prizes in the size stakes: he tipped the scales at just 6g on hatching and can hope to reach a mere 500g when fully grown. Tiny Tim is part of a small litter born to a group of tortoises that were destined for the illegal pet trade before being rescued by British customs last year.

The diminutive tortoises have now become star attractions at the UK’s Whipsnade Zoo, where they are reportedly enjoying the comforts of a “specially designed miniature home” – which sounds awfully mysterious and makes us wonder whether the powers that be at Whipsnade could be persuaded to release a few photos of the bespoke residence (hint, hint…).

We need more of these tortoises in the world. This just could be the answer to world peace.
