Wet, wild and on their way out

They’re unique areas where land and water meet and they’re some of the most productive ecosystems in the world. Despite their importance, wetlands around the globe are under threat. Half of them have already been destroyed and those remaining are at risk due to pollution, excessive drainage, overfishing and a variety of other threats.

We’ve put it together to mark World Wetlands Day, which takes place every February 2 (marking the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on this day in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran).
