Whale shark: Huge, mysterious & in trouble?

They’re the biggest fish in our oceans and yet we don’t know that much about them – even their ginormous size is a tricky thing to estimate (measuring tape just doesn’t cut it). But we’ve recently come across a post on ConservationBytes that outlines interesting research into the elusive movements and concentrations of these ocean giantsĀ – and how they’re being affected by global climatic shifts. Unsurprisingly, it suggests that whale sharks, like millions of other animal species, are likely to suffer negative consequences as the earth’s climate warms (they’re already listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN). We’re hoping that research data like this can be used to boost conservation efforts.
