Flickr Friday: The week’s best nature photos

28 Oct

Fridays are all about winding down and making weekend plans so we never post anything too serious on these most cheerful days of the working week. Instead, we bring you some visually inspiring photos from our Flickr group.

1. Bottlenose breath by Vanessa Stephen

Bottlenose dolphin

Managed to snap this inquisitive dolphin while hanging off the front of a boat. Camera got only mildly wet. Worth it.

2. LA STREGA E LA SUA SCOPA by Siprico

Butterfly perched on flower

THE WITCH AND THE BROOM

3. Marabou Stork by jackie.during

Marabou Stork

We were very privileged to be allowed to go along on private land just out side Hoedspruit to watch vultures feeding on a carcass. They came from far and wide, some even from the Kruger National Park, apparently, to feed.

4. You couldn’t paint it any better by littlebiddle

Landscape with river

Mother Nature sure did a nice job!

5. Snake in the office by Brett Blignaut

Snake perched on tree branch.

Nice little photo opportunity this morning when a snake was discovered in the storeroom. It was rescued, much to its dismay, and released near a pond.

6. Look into my eyes!! by Picture Taker 2

Close-up of a Eurisian eagle owl.

Pretty tight close-up into the face of a "Eurisian Eagle Owl". I saw several of these great birds while we were in Africa. They are about twice the size of the "Great Horned Owl" that we have here in the US.

7. Cape and White-backed Vulture by jackie.during

Vultures at a carcass

We were very privileged to be allowed to go along on private land just outside Hoedspruit to watch vultures feeding on a carcass. They came from far and wide, some even from the Kruger National Park, apparently, to feed.

8. Egret roadblock by Earth-Touch Admin

Zebras grazing with egrets nearby.

These two are probably poised to pounce on any tasty insects disturbed by the zebras' hooves.

9. Under Brush by arkansas traveler

Virgina tiger moth caterpillar

Virgina tiger moth caterpillar in a black-eyed Susan in a favorite neighborhood garden. The flower was near a casement window, the reflection from which is responsible for the blue sky background in the upper right.
