We turn our attention to the skies in our latest Sardine Run infographic. A circling company of Cape gannets is usually a pretty good indicator that shoals of silvery sardines are approaching. These easily identifiable birds are accomplished sardine hunters and gather in huge numbers to take advantage of the migrating fast food. With their streamlined bodies, dagger-like bills and highly effective dive-bombing technique, gannets are like the missiles of the Sardine Run, initiating an effective and deadly aerial bombardment.
